GitHub has rolled out an update to the blocked user interface for both personal accounts and organizations. The goal is to make moderation workflows faster and less prone to error.
Users can now search for blocked accounts using a username, full name, or email address. The interface supports sorting and pagination for large lists. Filtering options allow admins to sort by block reason, such as Spam, Misconduct, or Harassment.
For organizations, the update adds an audit trail. You can now see which administrator applied a block and when the restriction expires. Moderators can also attach private notes to preserve context.
GitHub has separated the search interface from the action of blocking a new user. This design change aims to reduce accidental blocks.
To access these tools, navigate to Settings > Moderation > Blocked users for personal accounts, or Organization settings > Moderation > Blocked users for organizations.
