On August 25, 2026 Cloudflare released a changelog entry stating that its AI Search service now allows larger custom metadata values. Vendor claim: the service provides a shared 10 KiB metadata envelope for each vector, which includes system metadata and JSON overhead, rather than imposing a per‑field limit. Additionally, the first 64 UTF‑8 bytes of each indexed string remain filterable, preserving query capabilities for short string prefixes.
This change expands the amount of contextual information developers can attach to vectors, potentially improving relevance and downstream processing in AI‑driven search applications.
