Overview
KDE announced the 26.08 release of its Gear suite on 20 August 2026. The update delivers a mix of security hardening, workflow tweaks, and UI refreshes across several flagship applications.
Okular
Okular’s PDF signing workflow has been reinforced, making the process more secure and streamlined. The two previous settings dialogs (Configure Backends and Configure Okular) have been merged into a single dialog to reduce confusion. Additional usability tweaks include triple‑click line selection and automatic inclusion of highlighted or underlined text in annotation notes, with copy‑and‑paste support for annotations.
Dolphin
Dolphin now offers tighter integration with KDE Connect: when browsing files on a phone, an “Open KDE Connect” button appears at the top of the window. The Filter Bar (Ctrl + i) supports plain‑text, globbing, and regular‑expression filters, and files can be grouped independently from the sorting criterion. Tab management has been improved with context‑menu options to close tabs to the left, right, or both.
Konsole
Konsole extends its drag‑and‑drop capabilities. Users can now drag underlined file names, links, email addresses, or color codes onto other applications. Examples include dragging a link onto a browser tab to open the page, onto a text editor to download the HTML, or a color code onto Krita to flood‑fill a layer.
Kdenlive
Kdenlive introduces several quality‑of‑life improvements: the Transform effect’s rotation axis can be moved freely; the Gradient Map effect supports multiple gradient stops; the Curves (avfilter) effect allows independent hue adjustments. On the timeline, selections can be copied to a new sequence, audio tracks are auto‑created as needed, and tracks can be reordered with custom colour coding. The Titler now supports object copy‑paste, rounded‑corner rectangles, and snap‑to‑center/edge guides.
Minuet
Minuet’s UI has been redesigned for both desktop and mobile. The home page and navigation drawer present exercise categories as cards, the current category stays highlighted, and a search field filters exercises by translated names and descriptions. Exercise pages have been re‑arranged to make better use of narrow windows.
Availability
The KDE Gear 26.08 packages will appear in Flathub and Snapcraft shortly, though they may not be immediately available in all Linux distributions. Source code and build instructions are provided on the KDE Gear 26.08 info page.
